Experience
My ten years of experience teaching at the college level includes my current position as Assistant Professor of Philosophy at West Chester University in Pennsylvania, the University of the Arts, Rosemont College, and Temple University. I specialize in areas such as critical thinking and logic and first-year writing. I try to relate my teaching materials to students' interests, such as by combining potentially complex philosophical ideas with contemporary pop-culture characters such as Watchmen and South Park. By applying my lessons to something students are already familiar with and enjoy, I have been successful in getting them to respond to in a positive way to my lessons. While I am most interested in tutoring in the areas of reading and writing, I also teach grammar and mechanics, college essay writing, religious studies, social sciences, and test preparation for several kinds, and levels, of tests. I feel that providing students with basic communication skills in these areas will help them throughout their lives, no matter what career they choose. My degree in Philosophy and English is from the University of Washington, Seattle and my Ph.D. is in Philosophy from Temple University. When I am not teaching, writing, or spending time with family, I enjoy cooking, reading, and traveling.
